BE BOLD, EMBRACE BALD!
How it all started.

In the beginning of 2020, I decided to leave my job. After taking a short sabbatical to enjoy my passion for photography, I started working on a personal project that has been on my mind for quite a while now. A project that, in my opinion, will not only have an impact on my life, but also on the life of many people like me. I called the project STŌN SKIN.
The mission of this project is to provide the best skin care products for men who struggle with baldness. It's a bit taboo, but many men encounter baldness at some point in their life. Having the top of your head continuously exposed to the outside world can be challenging, especially from a skin-health point of view. With STŌN SKIN we strive to be there to soften the blow when the shit hits the fan.
Below, I'll tell you the story of how it all started.
The struggle
As you can clearly see in my picture, I am bald. Actually, I have been balding for more than 10 years now (since my early 20s) and roughly 5 years ago I started shaving my head completely.
While being bald terrified me in the beginning, I have now completely embraced it and, to be honest, I am proud to be bald. Shaving my head was the best decision I ever made. Deciding to go bald has provided me with a confidence about the top of my head that I never had before.
The effect
Now, while I have completely accepted my baldness, there is something about being bald that frightens me. Just like noticing the same car everywhere after buying yourself a new car, I noticed bald people everywhere after shaving my head.
The thing is, when you look more closely at bald people and their head, it often seems that the older the person becomes, the more damaged the skin is on top of their head.
Bald people frequently suffer from dry skin, dark spots, and other skin diseases on their scalp. What's more frightening is that some even suffer from serious diseases like melanoma or other skin cancers. Moreover, the risk of getting any of these skin diseases only increases the older you get.
To me, the reason seemed simple: we bald people don't have any natural cover anymore. Without a cover, the skin on our head is continuously exposed to the outside environment, to the sun and to the impact of our industrialized world and this for the rest of our lives.
The need
This made me wonder if there is anything that can be done to minimize this exposure and reduce the aging of the skin on the top of my head. I am still young, right, so maybe there is something I can do now to take better care of my skin, protect it, and avoid skin issues in the future.
I started looking for skin care products tailored towards bald heads. More specifically, what I was looking for was a product that not only protected my bald head from the most harmful factor to the skin - the sun - but also nourished and moisturized my skin at the same time. A product that protected my head from damage caused by free radicals and mitigates the aging of the skin.
Simply said, a product to keep the skin on my head healthy, protected and arm it for the future.
While there are thousands of skin care products for women, there is only a fraction specifically designed for men. Moreover, of this small percentage of skin care products designed for men, most are focused on shave or facial care. Even though there are some pioneers making products for bald men, there aren't any who create the specific products that I was looking for.
The idea
Not finding anything that answered my needs, I decided that it would be better to create something myself (for those who know me, this is typical me). If you can't buy it, build it, right?
It's at this point that the idea for STŌN SKIN was born: a brand of skin care products that are tailored towards men, more specifically bald(ing) men, and their face and scalp skin care needs.
The goal is to provide an answer to a need that not only I have, but that many other people like me might have as well. A purposefully designed line of skin care products that help protect, nurture, and repair the skin on your head, your entire head, and allows you to arm it for the future.
The progress
Over the past months, I have been working together with a top Italian cosmetics laboratory to create our first product: A silky-smooth and mattifying fluid gel for daily use with highly effective ingredients that not only protect your face and scalp from the sun, free radicals, and other environmental impacts, but also, at the same time, nurture and moisturize your skin to keep it fresh and healthy. On top of that, we made sure to include ingredients that battle aging and help mitigate hyperpigmentation and dark spots.
Finally, after several months of research & development, I can proudly announce that we came up with a unique formulation for a product that answers my needs and, hopefully, those of other bald men. I am very glad to be able to tell you that the product is currently in the testing phase and will, most likely, be launched in the beginning of the summer of 2021.
